Mercy Regional EMS recently had the honor of participating in a Line The Highway event, which was organized by the Collinsville Police Department.
On October 9, Mercy joined Collinsville PD – alongside other first responder agencies and wrecker services – in lining Highway 169 with their vehicles and flashing their emergency lights. This powerful display was intended to honor first responders and highway workers who have been injured or killed on the job due to distracted drivers.
Oklahoma’s Move Over and Slow Down Laws require drivers to change lanes or reduce their speed when approaching an emergency vehicle or tow truck stopped on the side of the road with its lights on. By taking part in this Line the Highway event, Mercy joins together with fellow emergency service providers to raise awareness about these laws and emphasize the importance of responsible driving practices.
At Mercy Regional EMS, we are dedicated to providing high-quality care for those affected by roadside accidents and emergencies. However, we can only accomplish this when our team members on the scene are protected and able to fulfill their duties. We strongly encourage all drivers to do their part in keeping our communities’ first responders and highway workers safe by abiding by the Move Over and Slow Down Laws and remaining distraction-free behind the wheel.
